Introducing Cask & Crust

Follow Si's journey to the Cask Trade Warehouse, where he sampled and selected his perfect casks for the Cask & Crust release.

We’re so excited to announce our new partnership with cook and broadcaster Si King. Introducing Cask & Crust, our latest and very special limited-edition bottling. Watch the full story behind Cask & Crust, Si’s journey, and how he picked his casks to bottle.

Combining Flavour, Pies, and Purpose

Over the past few weeks, we’ve worked closely with Si through the full journey; from selecting casks to designing bespoke labels and bottling the final product. Travelling up to Scotland with Keeper of the Quaich, Colin Hampden-White, Si personally sampled and selected the whisky which has been bottled by Cask Trade.

The project launches a series of hand-selected, limited-edition whiskies, perfectly paired with specially created pie recipes crafted by Si and his team at PROPA!. Adding a local touch, the bottle labels have been illustrated by Sunderland based artist, Georgia Woodhall, bringing to life the unique and playful bottling.

Combining Si’s passion for pies and whisky, Cask & Crust is a celebration of craft, community, and flavour, with bottle profits being donated to Sunderland & Newcastle Foodbanks.

Si King, says the collaboration embodies his lifelong passions, bringing true purpose to the end-product.

"“Whisky is such a remarkable spirit full of character, variety and tradition. I’ve had a lifelong love for it, so being able to hand-pick some unique drams with Cask Trade and use them in my PROPA! Pies has been a real joy. To then bottle those whiskies for others to enjoy has been fantastic. Both Scotch whisky and PROPA! Pies carry a strong sense of place and purpose, so bringing the two together in support of Sunderland and Newcastle food banks has been an absolute privilege.” "

More than just a whisky bottle

Cask Trade’s bottling service helps private clients and independent bottlers create their very own, bespoke bottle, and this project was no different.

Director of Cask Trade and Keeper of the Quaich, Colin Hampden-White, says:

“Creating a bespoke bottling is always a joy, whether for our trusted independent bottlers, for fun, or, as in this case, for charity. Working with Si on his idea of pairing drams with his PROPA! Pies was truly special.”

Colin adds: “We were able to tailor every element of the journey to honour Si’s commitment to local talent and business, such as the bottle label design. The experience was truly rewarding and I hope people take as much delight in the end-product as we did making it.”
